The dome system consists of two Leeson AC servo-motors that provide programmable ramping to drive the dome, a motorized opener for the slit, an encoder for dome position, a home position sensor and TCSGalil (mount PC) computer. Except for the slit opener and dome encoder, DFM upgraded the dome system in August 2019.
The dome slit motor is controlled with a standard garage door transmitter, located in the dome to the left of the dome entrance door as you enter the chamber. Press the OPEN (SHUT) button twice in a row (with about a 1-second gap) to open (close) the slit. The slit will automatically stop when fully opened or closed. To stop the opening (closing) press the SHUT (OPEN) switch once while the slit is still moving.
The dome positioning system is controlled from TCS.
Please try to move the dome manually with the handpaddle in the chamber or the control room (a new feature with the new system) before proceeding! To move the dome with the handpaddle, first switch the dome to Manual in TCSGalil: from the Telescope menu, the Misc menu item, select Dome and then switch the Dome Mode to Manual. If this works, click Dome Init on the TCS window, then turn Dome Track back on.
